The month of March means the much anticipated yet little trained for Argus Cycle Tour! Entered in September last year in a moment of blind ambition, the day finally arrived to cycle 109kms in typical Argus windy conditions with thousands of other cyclists.
We did our best to make our trail bikes road friendly ditching dropper posts, adding tires with less rolling resistance, water bottles and bells. As far as fashion is concerned - we stuck to trail attire in baggies, backpacks and the trusty 510's for superior grip on flat pedals ;)
Starting in one of the last groups - OB at 9:48 - we paced ourselves and made a couple of stops at the refreshment stations to grab snacks and get the blood flowing through aching, numb butts..
Around about Smitswinkel we started pushing a bit and enjoyed having the wind at our backs. Hitting Chappies we cranked it, settling back into pace on Suikerbossie. The last bit to the finish line still had some challenging moments with a gush of wind here and there and fatigue setting in properly. But finally we crossed the line together relieved and proud - having crunched out all 109kms required to claim our medals! 5:52 would be the time to beat in our next effort ;)
