Mid-week trail expedition in Jonkershoek

We'd rather be riding so work was put aside today! It's always very exciting to ride in this breathtaking location with undoubtedly the most enjoyable singletrack in the Western Cape.

Slogging uphill and "hike 'n biking" is well rewarded with bombing down well maintained trails as fast as you dare without worrying about traffic issues - the rules of the trail is spelled out on clearly visible notice boards regulating right of passage.

"Above Never Ending Story" is one of my favorite sections, flowy and layered with switchbacks requiring full concentration.

OH, and for those with helmet envy...check out the rest of the NUTCASE lids on their website and
LOVE YOUR BRAIN!

Next we headed up to the start of the extended DH track. A steep drop-in (the photos don't do it justice..) is followed by a wonderfully smooth, freshly built section - right up the alley of our Bfe's and according to Strava, FAST!

Now, if you don't know what a Bfe is..head on over to the Cotic website...

The middle section had us rattling on our hardtails though. Riddled with brake bumps, ruts and grooves, this section made it clear that the race will be a job best left to the suspension bikes.
That said, I still made a reasonably good time on this section!

If the trails don't get you stoked the views will!

The bottom section is also not a smooth BMX track and some pedaling required from the by-now-well-tired legs.. But crossing the finish line happens here and we headed down to the tea garden to revitalise and make tracks homewards, leaving many great trails unridden for today but, off course we will be back for more soon!

Strava details: 15.6km distance, almost 1 hr 42 mins moving time, 787m elevation gain

Tokai

Back on the trails after more than 2 weeks!

Operation saving praying mantis - we helped 3 little guys out of the way of riders on the jeep track.

I thought that I would have a tough time with the climbs but we were enjoying the forest so much - we just kept going.

The top of Bridal Path boasts a fantastic view, perfect for a cup of tea!

Always trying to capture that perfect "rider in scenic location" shot...
..today's POD definitely this one!

Smiles, smiles and more smiles sum up this ride pretty well!

According to Strava almost 3 hours spent of which 1.52 hrs moving time covering 16kms and gaining 753m elevation. Boring info! What really happened was: today we rode our simply amazing steel hardtails in the forest and fell in love with singletrack (and each other ;)) all over again.

Misty view of the valley from Ou Kaapseweg.
