The magic of Switzerland

Something different for today's blog, but still riding related :)  In January 2012 we went snowboarding in magic winterland. This was certainly one of the most memorable travels I have undertaken. We started planning the trip months in advance and were super excited as the departure date drew closer, closer AND THEN FINALLY our bags were packed and off we went..

Are we there yet??

First view of the Swiss Alps!

We stayed over in Dielsdorf for 2 nights and spent a day in Zurich before the real adventure started. Not much snow yet..but bicycles galore!

Even a bike in the lake!

Chocolates to die for and cosy, furry blankets everywhere.
SNOW SNOW SNOW
as we arrived at our main destination - Laax!
Ready to ride board!

Epic days on the mountain.

Reto quickly got back into it, he'd spent seasons here before.

For me, this was the first time I've ever seen snow let alone snowboarded..but stubbornly I refused to take lessons and tried to learn the hard way by taking many beatings for hooking the wrong rail..
Eventually I did manage to get down the mountain quite decently though!

 Laax piste.

Both of us had taken old kit, and the boots were starting to get really uncomfortable - so we had to do what we had to do..BRAND NEW BOOTS, sooo comfy!

Flims piste.

Some GoPro action.

We had some sunny days as well - hot enough to tan believe it or not! But generally the temperature were between -2 and -10

Just as I started getting more comfortable with dressing up in many layers and being strapped into a board - the 14 days of our snow adventure started running out..

Good food, cosy fires, beers, snowballs, kids dressed in super bright baggy gear - ripping, a strange language, base layers, lots of luggage, very few franks for rands, and stories told of summer's fantastic mountain biking trails...what a holiday!!
